Susie Oprey asked:

Acne redness is not something that is talked about as much as scarring, pimple problems and other more pressing acne problems, but the redness that comes from acne can create as many issues for the sufferers as anything else.

There are some key things that can be done naturally – before you rush to the pharmacy or dermatologist – that could well cure your acne redness problem. Remember that the redness from acne comes from clogging of the pores and so the underlying issues relating to a good acne cure remain, notwithstanding that you may be dealing with the “redness” problem.

You therefore need to focus on some key things and I will focus on the five most important here.

First, you need to ensure that the underlying causes of the acne are being dealt with. In other words are you working on fixing the clogging that is occurring due to excess oil production, dirt or dust or from dead skin cells? You need to ensure that you are doing everything you can to alter that situation. Of course, excess oil production (sebum) can come from hormonal imbalances too and you are limited in what you can do but this brings me to the second, vital point.

Second, you need to consider your diet. Diet plays an important role in acne causes and acne prevention and so too for acne redness issues. Eliminate fast food, oily or greasy food, aerated drinks and confectionary. You need to be eating fruit and vegetable as well as nuts, grains and other items that will not only prevent the excess sebum production but will also help you regain hormonal balance.

Third, part of the dietary issue is ensuring you’re drinking sufficient water (around six to eight glasses a day) and washing properly. Again, this will help remove hormonal and other imbalance issues.

Fourth, you need to clean your face properly – at least twice a day and with a mild cleanser. Obviously you should also keep you hands away from your face, but you can use natural exfoliators that can lead to highly effective cleansing and exfoliating. For instance, oatmeal, limejuice and fruit peels are all excellent exfoliators for the face. You can really achieve wonderful results removing dead skin cells if you use some of these natural exfoliants once or twice a week.

Fifth, use a good antibacterial agent to kill the bacteria that is leading to the acne redness problem. This is something I have written about and reviewed in my site. Tea tree oil is highly effective and can prevent the breakouts that lead to redness and skin irritation. You need something natural, which will not inflame the skin or set off an allergic reaction and aggravate the existing acne redness issue, and you also clearly want something that is not going to create any long-term effects for you.
